Life Without the Internet

Do you remember the days before the internet? Well, I had forgotten until yesterday! Two things effect our internet connection:

1) a bolt of lightening striking one of the towers (which happens ever so rarely and is usually repaired within a few hours)

2) ice!

Yesterday the latter effected my connection so I was without service for an entire day! (gasp) The rain quickly turned to ice in the a.m. hours and continued throughout the day. This causes a build up not only on our antenna, but the trees and everything else in between. The internet waves get confused and never reach their destination in order to properly transmit the data.

This meant that all I could do was....... clean???? Yep, spent the day cleaning and got the majority of my work done for the week. I also spent some time outside, umbrella in one hand, camera in the other.

Oh - and did I mention that I also dusted off my treadmill and went to walking while reading my DSL for Dummies book? I think that was some time well spent.

I wanted to see what type an effect using my cross screen filter would have on the ice that was forming on the tree branches. I like both of them.

This morning as the ice began to melt in the early hours my internet also began working. I decided that before posting yesterdays pictures I would also take a few of the melting ice. Here are some of my favorites:

Both of these photos were taken with my Nikon D40, Nikon DX 15 - 55 mm lens; SS 1/125; f5.6; Macro setting; Matrix; Cross Screen Filter

I really like the little stars that I got on the ice crystals. Even the dew drops made a large glow in the background.

That is about it for today!
