This is not a typical "crafty" post today but none the less, it is something that I had thought about doing for quite a while now and finally accomplished.
On April 13, 1994, my youngest son made his way into this world and then on September 21, 2004 he departed this world. Something no mother ever really thinks about - or at least wants to think about - but it is more of a common reality than anyone wants to admit.
This cute little boy statue was given to us at my son's funeral which you can see here. It held a little green foliage plant which has long since died.
I knew I did not want to get rid of this piece but I really didn't know what to do with it. I have placed it in very spots around the house but nothing seemed "right". I finally just put him away in the closet.
A few days ago I decided to place him in my flower garden. Not knowing what, or if, the statue had a sealer, I sprayed it with Thompson Water Sealer and let it air dry for about 30 minutes. It still seemed wet, but I gently carried it over to the place I wanted it to set.
I put a round stepping stone behind these shrubs and placed the little boy on the stone to give it a solid place to set.
I then put these red and pink marbles in the shell for decoration. They also reflect beautifully when the sun hits them.
The next day, the statue no longer seemed "wet" so I am assuming that it dried and will withstand the weather -or at least I hope so. If anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to comment.
